It is not a thirties crisis. It is a bill

Between 28 and 30, Saturn finishes the lap it started on the day you were born and passes again through the exact degree where it stood. It is the only transit that closes a whole cycle — every other planet crosses every point of your chart all the time; Saturn does it once per generation of a life.

And what it does is neither punishment nor luck. Saturn bills you for what is already there. It invents nothing: it looks at what you built in thirty years, keeps what has structure and knocks down what was standing out of habit. A marriage that was routine, a career that was inherited, a friendship that was only an address — that is when it falls, and that is when what is truly yours stays.

The internet answers "at 29" and stops there. It is the right answer to the wrong question. Because the age is the easy part, and it is nearly the same for everyone. What changes from person to person — and changes a great deal — are the two questions that come next.

First question: which area of your life the bill lands in

Saturn stood somewhere in your chart when you were born, and that is where it comes back to. The house it stood in is the sector of life the return shakes. It is not the same sector for you and for someone born the same year:

Second question: once, or three times

For four and a half months a year, Saturn appears to move backwards: what moves is the Earth, overtaking it on the inside, and from here we see the motion reversed. If your birth point falls inside one of those loops, it crosses that point three times: it passes, comes back and passes again.

We measured 31,390 births, one per day between 1940 and 2025. It happens to 38.0% of people. The other 62.0% get a single pass.

And the difference between the two groups is large. One pass is an episode. Three passes are 260 days — almost nine months in which the same question comes back, goes away and comes back again, and that is exactly what makes someone say "I thought I had settled this last year".

You do not choose which of the two groups you are in. It was already decided the day you were born, by the exact degree where Saturn stopped.

What the return is not

It is not a date on which something happens. It is a season of settling accounts, and what it bills depends entirely on what was built. People who spent their twenties building something solid tend to come out of the return with it firmer — the reputation for destruction comes from those who reached 29 having made nothing of their own.

And it is not punishment. Saturn is the planet that gives form: it strips the ornament and leaves the bone. It is uncomfortable, and it is the most useful thing the sky does for anyone once every thirty years.

Where these numbers come from

Nothing on this page was copied from another site. We measured 31,390 births, one per day between 1940 and 2025, looking for the exact date on which Saturn returns to each one’s starting point — with the same ephemeris that builds your chart here:

Saturn’s lap was measured too, and it has no fixed length: 864 whole laps, spread around the entire wheel of the zodiac, giving 29.414 years on average — the shortest at 29.09 and the longest at 29.86.

The second return happens on average at 58.60 and the third at 88.04. They are not the first times two and times three, and the difference is small and real: each lap has its own length.
