Venus retrograde: what it means, and when the next one is

See whether Venus is retrograde right now, the dates through 2034 and what changes in those 42 days — and what it means to be born with it, which 7.2% of people are.

Is Venus retrograde right now?

The calculation uses the same ephemeris that builds this site's birth charts, and the answer comes from your device's clock.

I was born with Venus retrograde: what does that say about me

First, check whether it is your case: the free chart on this site marks the retrograde on the Venus line itself, in the table of positions. It happens in 7.2% of charts — one person in fourteen.

What it usually describes is rhythm, not defect. Venus is what you value: what you find beautiful, what you think is worth your time, what you think is worth your money. With her retrograde, that judgement does not arrive finished — it is built by looking again.

In love, this tends to show up as taking longer to know whether you like someone, and as going back to matters that seemed closed. It is not indecision: it is that a first impression does not convince this Venus. Many people with it describe the same scene — liking someone only after a while, when everyone else decided weeks ago.

In money and taste, it shows up as revising the price of things. The person buys slowly, returns more, changes style mid-life and tends to find value where nobody else looked. Same mechanics: the worth of a thing is a conclusion, not a first sight.

And the usual caveat holds: the sign and the house say the rest. Venus retrograde in Taurus in house 2 and Venus retrograde in Aquarius in house 11 are the same label and two lives that look nothing alike.

What it does not say about you

It does not say you will struggle in love, and it does not say you love wrongly. Those two sentences travel widely and come out of no measurement — they come out of repetition. 7.2% of people are not a group with worse luck.

Traditional astrology treats retrogradation as an accidental debility: the planet acts, but with less reach, like someone working from home. That is different from acting badly — and it is the difference almost every text on the subject loses.

Which sign yours can be in

Here is the part almost nobody tells you, and it is about you: Venus does not go retrograde in all twelve signs. Mercury does; Venus does not. Each generation has five possible signs, and only five — find your band:

Born betweenCould only have Venus retrograde in these five
1946–1953Taurus, Cancer, Virgo, Sagittarius, Aquarius
1962–1969Aries, Cancer, Virgo, Scorpio, Aquarius
1994–2001Aries, Gemini, Virgo, Scorpio, Aquarius
2018–2025Aries, Gemini, Leo, Scorpio, Capricorn

If you were born between 1994 and 2001 and have Venus retrograde, she is in Aries, Gemini, Virgo, Scorpio or Aquarius. There is no sixth possibility. People born in the 1940s had another list, and people born in 2050 will have another.

Across 96 measured years, Libra and Pisces received none — anyone with Venus retrograde in Libra was born outside that window, or has a chart worth checking twice. The reason is at the foot of this page, with the maths in hand.

The dates, through 2034

There are six periods between now and the end of 2034, and each lasts about 42 days. The times are Brasília time and come from the same ephemeris this site uses to build charts — not from a memorised table.

Scorpio and Libra30 September 2034, 16:3611 November 2034, 10:57

The gap between one and the next is 584 days, a year and seven months. That is why Venus retrograde never becomes dinner-table talk the way Mercury does, coming back three times a year: by the time she arrives, nobody has thought about it for over a year.

What changes in those 42 days

The phase asks for review of what already exists, not for a debut. It is a good stretch to revisit a contract, a price, a wardrobe and a badly ended conversation — and to run into people again, which is the thing that most reliably happens: whoever disappeared tends to reappear in these days, and the sky itself is moving back.

About the part you will read most elsewhere: no, you are not forbidden to marry, to buy or to cut your hair. None of that comes out of measurement — it comes out of repetition. What does hold is more modest and more useful: a matter of taste decided in these 42 days tends to be revised later — not undone, revised. If you can wait, wait; if you cannot, decide knowing you will look again.

And the shadow matters more than the date. Venus covers the same stretch of sky three times — going, coming back and going again — and that takes 107 days in all. That is why the feeling usually starts before and ends after what the calendar marks. The block at the top of this page shows both edges of the current period’s shadow.

Frequently asked questions about Venus retrograde

Why do some pages write Venus retrograda and others Venus retrogrado?

Both spellings circulate. In Portuguese and Spanish the adjective agrees with the noun, and the planet takes a gender — so one language settles on the feminine and the other leans masculine. Whoever types either one is looking for exactly this page, and neither is wrong about any astronomy. It is grammar, not sky. English has no such split: it is simply Venus retrograde.

How do I know if I have Venus retrograde?

The free chart on this site marks it in the table of positions itself, on the Venus line. It happens in 7.2% of charts — one person in fourteen.

Is Venus retrograde bad for love?

No. It describes rhythm, not luck: the person takes longer to know whether they like someone and revises what they find beautiful along the way. No measurement links Venus retrograde to fewer relationships or to worse ones.

Can I not marry or buy with Venus retrograde?

You can. That prohibition comes out of no measurement. What is observed is more modest: a matter of taste decided in these 42 days tends to be revised later. If you can wait, wait; if you cannot, decide knowing you will look again.

How often does Venus go retrograde?

0.63 times a year, which is once every 584 days — a year and seven months. It is the planet that goes retrograde least: Mercury spends 19% of the time backwards, Mars 9% and Venus 7.2%.

How long does it last?

42 days, measured across the 60 retrogrades between 1930 and 2025 (from 41 to 43). Counting the shadow — the stretch she covers three times — it is 107 days.

Can Venus retrograde happen in any sign?

No, and that is the difference from Mercury. Each eight-year window holds five retrogrades in five signs, and the list shifts by one sign at a time over decades. Libra and Pisces received no retrograde station between 1930 and 2025.

Where these numbers come from

Nothing on this page was copied from another site. We measured the 60 Venus retrogrades between 1930 and 2025 with the same ephemeris that builds your chart here, and an automatic check redoes the maths on every change to the site:

Venus is the planet that goes retrograde least. Mercury spends 19% of the time backwards and Mars 9%; she, 7.2%. And all 60 retrogrades contain the inferior conjunction — the moment Venus passes between Earth and the Sun. That is not a coincidence: it is the definition of the phenomenon.

And this is where the five-sign story comes from. Across the 60 retrogrades, they started like this — and the first five on the list hold 46 of the 60, three in every four:

Where the retrograde startedHow many times
Virgo11
Aquarius10
Aries9
Cancer8
Scorpio8
Gemini4
Sagittarius4
Taurus3
Capricorn2
Leo1
Libra0
Pisces0

The cause is a resonance. Five Venus retrogrades take almost exactly eight Earth years, and each one happens 215.6° ahead of the previous — or, going round the other way, 144.4° behind, which is the drawing of a pentagram. After the fifth, she comes back almost to the starting point.

Almost. The pentagram slips 2.30° every eight years, always backwards. At that pace it would take 1,253 years to go all the way round the zodiac — longer than separates today from Charlemagne. That is why your generation’s list of signs is not the previous generation’s, and shifts one sign at a time.

The share of births is steady across the decades: from 6.9% to 8.1%, with no privileged generation.

How we interpret your chart

Methodology

The interpretation follows the Shelly Gonella method — a well-known astrologer who never reads a position in isolation.

01

Every reading combines planet, sign, house, aspects, ruler of the house and position of the ruler, identifying patterns that repeat in your chart.

02

The result is an integrated interpretation, made to turn astrological information into clarity, real understanding and practical use.

Have you ever gone to an astrology site, generated your birth chart and started reading each position separately?

"Moon in Pisces."

"Venus in Gemini."

"Uranus in House 7."

You get dozens of interpretations but, in the end, you still do not understand how any of it applies to your life.

Worse still: many people end up concluding that "astrology does not work" when, in fact, the problem is how the chart was interpreted. A birth chart is not a collection of loose meanings.

In professional astrology there is a methodology of reading. There is an order, criteria and specific guidelines that show which elements carry more weight, how they relate to each other and which patterns really repeat. That is what turns information into understanding. It was for that reason that I developed my method of interpretation.

Instead of simply explaining what each planet, sign or house means, I answer the question that really matters:

"What do I do with this?"

How does that position influence my relationships? My career? My challenges? My talents? My decisions?

Because astrology only makes sense when it stops being a list of traits and becomes a practical tool for understanding who you are, why certain patterns repeat and how to use that knowledge to live with more awareness.

Most charts explain what you have.

My method explains how everything works together, which patterns in your chart matter most and, above all, what to do with that information in practice.

That is the difference between reading a birth chart and truly understanding it.

High-precision astronomical calculations, checked position by position to guarantee the accuracy of every sign, house and aspect in your chart.

Frequently asked questions

Questions about your reading

How does it work?

You enter your birth data and receive the graphic of your birth chart free, with the positions of the planets, signs, houses and aspects. Then you choose the area you want to understand first: the written interpretation is ready within 1 day and opens in your library, here inside the site.

Is the interpretation created from my chart?

Yes. The content is organised from the real positions of the planets, signs, houses, aspects and rulers of your birth chart — never from a standard text that would serve anyone with the same isolated position.

Do I need to know the exact time of birth?

For the free chart, no: without the time it is still possible to calculate the positions of the planets, but the Ascendant and the houses become unavailable or less precise. For the interpretation you buy, yes — the time is indispensable, because the Ascendant, the houses and much of what the reading analyses come from it. If you are not sure of the time, check your birth certificate before ordering: without it the result would be led into error.

How long until I receive my analysis?

Within 1 day of the payment clearing — and usually well before. It opens on its own in your library, and you can close the page while you wait.

Do I get a PDF? Does access expire?

Yes, the interpretation is available to download as a PDF. And access does not expire: after the purchase it stays in your account.

Can I buy more than one analysis?

Yes. After the first sign-up, you can order as many as you like with the same login — they are all kept in your library.

Is my data safe?

Yes. Your birth data is used only to calculate the birth chart and is never shared with third parties. The payment details go straight to whoever charges — this page does not store card numbers.
