Signs and career: where work and money live in the chart

Career and money are not read from the solar sign. They live in the Midheaven and houses 2, 6 and 10 — and the Midheaven is fairer than the Ascendant.

Which sign is best for each profession?

Watercolour zodiac wheel, with the twelve signs in a circle

None, and the question has the wrong address. There are surgeons, teachers and accountants of all twelve signs, and the reason is arithmetic: the solar sign is one twelfth of one piece out of the ten the chart has.

The lists of “ideal professions for each sign” circulate because they are easy to write, not because they describe anything. They take the sign's keyword — Aries is initiative, therefore entrepreneur; Virgo is detail, therefore proofreader — and call that a vocation. It is the sign's adjective with a job title stuck on the front.

What the chart says about work lives in four places, and none of them is the solar sign: the Midheaven, its ruler, and houses 2, 6 and 10. All four demand the hour and the city of birth — which is why no list made from the date alone can say anything about career.

What is the Midheaven in the birth chart?

It is the highest point the ecliptic reaches in the sky of your birth, and the start of house 10. In Latin it is the Medium Coeli, the middle of the sky, and that is why it shows up abbreviated as MC.

It describes what your life shows to the outside: the reputation, the post, what is left of your work when someone speaks of you without you being there. It is not what the person does from nine to six — that is house 6. It is what all that builds as an image over decades.

The distinction is worth making, because it undoes a common misunderstanding: the Midheaven does not say the profession. It says the manner of appearing. A Midheaven in Capricorn describes someone who builds authority slowly and by structure — and that fits a judge, an architect and a carpenter who signs her own furniture.

What gives a concrete address is the ruler of the Midheaven: the planet that rules the sign sitting there, and the house that planet landed in. Midheaven in Libra takes Venus; if Venus is in house 9, the career organises itself around foreign places, teaching or publishing. The same Midheaven with Venus in house 6 describes a craft done by hand. The whole logic of rulers is in chart ruler and dominant planet.

Does the Midheaven depend on the city I was born in?

On the hour, a great deal. On latitude, almost nothing — and that sets it apart from the Ascendant. I calculated the distribution of the twelve signs at both points, with the same house formula this site uses to build charts:

CityMidheaven, by signAscendant, by sign
Belém7.75% to 8.94%7.67% to 8.97%
São Paulo7.75% to 8.94%6.34% to 9.45%
London7.75% to 8.94%3.65% to 11.86%

Notice the middle column: the same numbers in all three cities. The Midheaven does not know what latitude you were born at — it depends only on sidereal time and the tilt of the Earth, and that tilt is the same everywhere. The small variation that remains, from 7.75% to 8.94%, comes from the signs near the equinoxes against those near the solstices.

The Ascendant is the opposite. In London, someone born with Scorpio rising is three times as common as someone born with Aries — 11.86% against 3.65%. Your career sign is drawn far more fairly than your appearance sign.

This has a practical consequence worth more than the curiosity: if you are trying to work out your birth hour from its effects, the Midheaven is the piece that gives the least away on its own — it changes every two hours like the Ascendant, but without the unevenness that makes some signs turn up far less than others.

What is the difference between houses 2, 6 and 10?

They are three different questions about work, and plenty of people have one good and another hard. Treating them as one thing is what makes someone think “the chart is wrong” when they earn well and hate the job.

HouseIts questionWhat shows up when it is hard
House 2what you earn and what you valuemoney that slips away, a sense of not deserving
House 6the routine, the craft, health at worka job that makes you ill, a boss who consumes you
House 10the career as trajectory and imagerecognition that does not arrive, a post that does not fit

House 8 comes in when the money is someone else's: partnership, inheritance, investment, the salary paid by a company that is not yours. It is the difference between earning and receiving, and it explains a lot of partners' quarrels.

Three combinations that come up often, and what each describes:

Your Midheaven, its ruler and the three houses of work come from the chart calculated with date, time and city. It is the difference between reading a list of professions by sign and reading your own.

And money — does the chart say how much I will earn?

No, and no honest reading promises that. How much someone earns depends on country, on decade, on choice and on luck, and none of that is in anyone's sky.

What the chart describes is the relationship with money, and that part is quite concrete: whether it comes from her own work or from partnership, whether it sticks or slips away, whether she spends to calm herself or saves so as not to feel fear, and what she thinks she deserves to receive. The last one changes lives the most — because the price someone charges tends to be what she believes she is worth, and not what the market would pay.

Venus and Jupiter come in here, and they are not what their reputation says. Venus describes what the person values, and Jupiter how much she allows herself. A well-housed Jupiter does not guarantee money; it describes someone who asks for more, and asking for more is half the way there.

What the sign does not say about your career

It does not say what you should do with your life, and neither does astrology as a whole. The chart describes tendencies and affinities — not a profession, and far less an order.

Four things that take apart any list of professions by sign:

And the limit said out loud holds: astrology chooses nobody's career, predicts neither dismissal nor promotion, and does not replace careers advice. It gives vocabulary for a question that is usually badly put — and “which profession suits me?” almost always is.

Frequently asked questions about signs and career

Which sign is best for each profession?

None, and the question has the wrong address. The solar sign is one twelfth of one piece out of ten, and there are surgeons of all twelve signs. What the chart says about work lives elsewhere: in the Midheaven, in its ruler and in houses 2, 6 and 10 — and none of those four things can be found without the hour and the city of birth.

What is the Midheaven in the birth chart?

It is the highest point the ecliptic reaches in the sky of your birth, and the start of house 10. It describes what your life shows to the outside: the reputation, the post, what you are recognised for. It is not what you do from nine to six — it is what is left of your work when someone speaks of you without you being there.

What is the difference between houses 2, 6 and 10?

House 2 is what you earn and what you value — your own money, resources, material self-worth. House 6 is daily work, routine, health and the craft as practised. House 10 is the career as a trajectory and as a public image. Plenty of people have one good and another hard, and that is why earning well and liking what you do are not the same question.

Does the Midheaven depend on the city I was born in?

It depends on the hour and the time zone, but almost not at all on latitude — and that sets it apart from the Ascendant. I calculated the distribution: the Midheaven lands between 7.75% and 8.94% in each sign, and those same proportions hold in São Paulo, in Belém and in London. The Ascendant varies from 6.3% to 9.5% in São Paulo and from 3.7% to 11.9% in London.

Does the birth chart say how much money I will earn?

No, and no honest reading promises that. The chart describes the person's relationship with earning, with spending and with worth — whether the money comes from her own work or from partnership, whether it sticks or slips away, what she feels she deserves. How much is a number that depends on country, on decade and on choice, and none of that is in the sky.

Signs and career in short

Where it lives Midheaven and houses 2, 6 and 10 The Midheaven by sign 7.75% to 8.94% And it is the same at any latitude What the solar sign says almost nothing

Keywords reputation, craft, self-worth, wrong address

Everything on this page depends on one thing the birth date does not have: the hour of birth. The Midheaven changes sign every two hours, and without it there is no house 10, no house 6 and no house 2 — the three disappear together, because the houses are born of the Ascendant and the Midheaven. Whoever has only the date has the Sun, the Moon with a caveat and the planets by sign, and nothing about career. The way through, when the hour does not exist, is in I do not know what time I was born.

How we interpret your chart

Methodology

The interpretation follows the Shelly Gonella method — a well-known astrologer who never reads a position in isolation.

01

Every reading combines planet, sign, house, aspects, ruler of the house and position of the ruler, identifying patterns that repeat in your chart.

02

The result is an integrated interpretation, made to turn astrological information into clarity, real understanding and practical use.

Have you ever gone to an astrology site, generated your birth chart and started reading each position separately?

"Moon in Pisces."

"Venus in Gemini."

"Uranus in House 7."

You get dozens of interpretations but, in the end, you still do not understand how any of it applies to your life.

Worse still: many people end up concluding that "astrology does not work" when, in fact, the problem is how the chart was interpreted. A birth chart is not a collection of loose meanings.

In professional astrology there is a methodology of reading. There is an order, criteria and specific guidelines that show which elements carry more weight, how they relate to each other and which patterns really repeat. That is what turns information into understanding. It was for that reason that I developed my method of interpretation.

Instead of simply explaining what each planet, sign or house means, I answer the question that really matters:

"What do I do with this?"

How does that position influence my relationships? My career? My challenges? My talents? My decisions?

Because astrology only makes sense when it stops being a list of traits and becomes a practical tool for understanding who you are, why certain patterns repeat and how to use that knowledge to live with more awareness.

Most charts explain what you have.

My method explains how everything works together, which patterns in your chart matter most and, above all, what to do with that information in practice.

That is the difference between reading a birth chart and truly understanding it.

High-precision astronomical calculations, checked position by position to guarantee the accuracy of every sign, house and aspect in your chart.

Frequently asked questions

Questions about your reading

How does it work?

You enter your birth data and receive the graphic of your birth chart free, with the positions of the planets, signs, houses and aspects. Then you choose the area you want to understand first: the written interpretation is ready within 1 day and opens in your library, here inside the site.

Is the interpretation created from my chart?

Yes. The content is organised from the real positions of the planets, signs, houses, aspects and rulers of your birth chart — never from a standard text that would serve anyone with the same isolated position.

Do I need to know the exact time of birth?

For the free chart, no: without the time it is still possible to calculate the positions of the planets, but the Ascendant and the houses become unavailable or less precise. For the interpretation you buy, yes — the time is indispensable, because the Ascendant, the houses and much of what the reading analyses come from it. If you are not sure of the time, check your birth certificate before ordering: without it the result would be led into error.

How long until I receive my analysis?

Within 1 day of the payment clearing — and usually well before. It opens on its own in your library, and you can close the page while you wait.

Do I get a PDF? Does access expire?

Yes, the interpretation is available to download as a PDF. And access does not expire: after the purchase it stays in your account.

Can I buy more than one analysis?

Yes. After the first sign-up, you can order as many as you like with the same login — they are all kept in your library.

Is my data safe?

Yes. Your birth data is used only to calculate the birth chart and is never shared with third parties. The payment details go straight to whoever charges — this page does not store card numbers.
