The sign of Venus says HOW you love; the house says WHERE the affection happens. They are two different questions, and the second is almost never asked. Venus in Taurus describes someone who loves slowly and to last; Venus in Taurus in house 6 describes that same affection showing up in the everyday routine, and in house 9 describes the same person falling for whoever comes from far away. It is another love life, with the same sign.

And there is a second thing the house says and the sign does not: where you spend money and where you look for beauty. Venus is not only love, it is taste, worth and pleasure. The house shows in which area of life those three concentrate, and that usually explains a whole budget better than any spreadsheet.

The same observation that applies to Mercury applies here: the house of Venus is almost always the house of your Sun or one next to it. It never moves more than 47 degrees from the Sun, and a house averages 30, so it fits, at most, one or two houses away.

And the hard difference of this series has to be said before anything else: the house depends on the exact time of birth. The whole chart turns about one degree every four minutes, and a house boundary passes in around two hours. Having Venus in the 5th house means you live romance in full. It is the most openly loving of the twelve placements. Here affection wants to be lived, told, celebrated, and the person with this Venus usually has a love life with more chapters than average.

The 5th house is what comes out of you: work, children, play, pleasure, romance. Venus there gives an ease in falling in love, a real creative talent and a joy that spreads, and a specific difficulty with the part of a relationship that has no charm at all.

And here is what hardly any text writes down: this person does not confuse infatuation with love: she knows the difference and chooses infatuation on purpose, because that is where she feels alive. What the honest reading adds is the price of that. Infatuation lasts what it lasts, and a whole life of fresh starts costs tiredness. In practice that turns into three useful things: an ability to create that yields work, and sometimes money; a joy that makes whoever is near live better; and an ease with children that builds a lifelong bond.

That strength does best in art, creation, teaching children, entertainment, celebration, sport and any work with authorship and pleasure. And it does badly in a routine with no invention, in a solemn environment and anywhere joy is treated as a lack of commitment.

There are two, and they are opposites: the excess is romance having to be always new, and the deficiency is somebody who gave up wanting anything precisely in this area of life. The excess is changing the story when the current one goes calm: the person mistakes the quiet phase for the end of love and starts again, several times, with the same feeling of being authentic. It also shows up as heavy spending on immediate pleasure, and a real difficulty in saving money.

The deficiency is the opposite and goes unnoticed for years: the person simply stopped expecting pleasure from here. Here she is the person who stopped having fun. It is a practical and cheap correction: keeping your friends during the romance. Whoever does that has somewhere to come back to, and curiously loves better.
