What the house of the Part of Fortune says in your birth chart
The sign of the Part of Fortune says in what manner; the house says WHERE. And in this series the house has an advantage no other house on this site has.
It is the only house in the chart that barely moves when the birth time is wrong. Measured in São Paulo, every six hours across fifty years: one hour of error changes the house of the North Node in 50.1% of charts, and the house of the Part of Fortune in 5.5%. Four minutes of error change it in 0.3%. In every other house series the honest sentence is “without the exact time, the house is worthless”; here it is not.
And the measurement says why. In one hour the Ascendant moves 15.01 degrees — and the Part of Fortune moves 15.01 degrees. It travels with the Ascendant because it comes from it: the formula is the Ascendant plus the distance between the Moon and the Sun. Only the Moon opens a gap between the two, 0.51 degree per hour. From that comes an identity, not a coincidence: the distance from the Ascendant to the Part of Fortune IS the phase of the Moon. We checked it in 73,050 charts, with a worst-case difference of 0.0000000000002 degree.
And the house shares out evenly — each of the twelve receives the Part of Fortune around 8.3% of the time, with a maximum deviation from flat of 0.180 percentage point.
There is one large trap. The classical formula changes between day and night, and the two versions never fall in the same house — zero in 73,050 measurements. They mirror each other around the line of the Ascendant, so one is always on one side and the other on the other. Whoever uses the wrong formula does not get it wrong sometimes: they get it wrong always.
And a limit stated on the first screen, because the old name misleads: the Part of Fortune is not luck and does not promise money. What the modern reading describes is the place in the chart where a person recovers without spending strength.
What it means to have the Part of Fortune in the 4th house
The Part of Fortune in the 4th house puts rest at home — a real home, with a door, a smell and hours of its own. It is the house of the base: family, origin, the place you come back to. With the Part of Fortune here, a person recovers indoors, and almost never outside.
It is not the house of someone who had a good childhood. It is the house of someone who, whether she did or not, remakes herself in a space that answers to her alone.
And here is what hardly any text writes down: this position depends on a material condition more than any other, and almost no text warns of it. Resting here requires a place. Someone who spends her youth in a shared room, in someone else’s house or moving from move to move lives for years without access to her own rest — and usually thinks the problem is her.
How the Part of Fortune in the 4th house shows up day to day
It does not show up as attachment to family. It shows up in the difference between sleeping in your own bed and sleeping in any other. These are concrete signs, the kind you recognise in your own week:

You build a place. Where others rent space, this one makes a home in six months — and the home works for whoever walks in, too. It is a concrete and transferable skill: whoever rests in the 4th house tends to know, without studying it, what makes a room welcome someone — and that becomes work, friendship, chosen family.
In practice that becomes three useful things: making a base in a new place, caring for people without emptying yourself and recognising early when a move will cost too much.
That strength does best in work done from home or near it, with your own hours and a defined territory. And it pays off badly in a long, unpredictable commute, because there the home becomes a dormitory and the rest never happens.
What are the challenges of the Part of Fortune in the 4th house
There are two, and they are opposites: the excess is turning the home into a fortress, and the deficiency is someone who never makes a base and calls that freedom. The excess is withdrawal that has stopped being a choice: the outing that can always be postponed, the invitation that always lands in a bad week. The home goes on resting the person — and she slowly runs out of anywhere to take that rest.

At the New and the Full Moon it does not matter whether the chart is diurnal or nocturnal: adding and subtracting zero is the same calculation, and the same holds for 180 degrees. At the quarters it does matter, and the swap is from one angle to the other. Whoever has the Part of Fortune in the 4th house was born, in a diurnal chart, near the First Quarter — and, in a nocturnal one, near the Last Quarter. In a diurnal chart at the First Quarter that calculation lands on the Imum Coeli, which is the cusp of the 4th house — the lowest point of the chart.
The two phases share the half-light: neither the debut of the New Moon nor the spotlight of the Full. It is the phase of being halfway, and the 4th house is where one rests halfway.
How the Part of Fortune in the 4th house changes over time
What changes with time is not the person going out more: it is her no longer treating her own home as somewhere she needs permission to be. At twenty, staying in felt like missing something. Later it becomes the reason she can be whole when she goes out.
And there is a freedom only this house gives: even with an approximate time, it is usually right — which cannot be said in the other series.
And here is the most honest check a house reading allows: think of the last week you felt put back together. If it had more nights at home than out, and you were not ill, this house is in the right place.

Does the Part of Fortune in the 4th house mean I had a good childhood?
It says nothing about the childhood you had. It says where you recover today: in a space that answers to you alone. People with a hard origin often have this position and are slow to find it, precisely because they associate “home” with the place they left.
And if I live with other people or do not own a home?
Then your rest costs more than it needs to. You do not have to own it: you have to have a corner that is truly yours, set up by you and respected by the others. A room will do. A ten-year temporary arrangement will not.
