Venus retrograde 2026: Scorpio and Libra

From 3 October to 13 November 2026, Venus moves back from Scorpio into Libra. What the retreat asks of the world, of you, and of each house in your birth chart.

By Shelly Gonella in The sky in 2026 and 202722 min read

October begins and, for no reason you can quite name, there you are looking again at the photo of someone who had already left your life. Or opening your credit card bill and wondering why that August purchase had felt so urgent. Or noticing that the compliment you needed most was your own, and it never came.

It is the kind of month Venus retrograde tends to bring. In 2026 it moves backward from 3 October, at 4:09 am, until 13 November, at 9:22 pm, Brasília time. It starts in Scorpio and ends in Libra: it turns at 8°29' Scorpio, moves back into Libra on 25 October, and takes up its forward pace again at 22°51' Libra.

There are two signs, and so two questions. What have you kept to yourself and left unsaid, which is Scorpio's subject. And how are the agreements in your relationships doing, who gives in, who demands, which way the balance tips, which is Libra's subject.

The Greeks gave Venus two names. Late in the afternoon she was Hesperus, the first light after sunset. Before dawn she was Phosphorus, the one who brings light ahead of the day. It took them a while to work out that both were the same star, seen from two sides of the night. The retrograde is the exact moment of that switch: Venus leaves the evening sky, disappears into the Sun's glare for a few days, and reappears on the other side, before sunrise.

In Mesopotamia the same thing became a myth. Inanna, the goddess they saw in this planet, descends to the underworld. At each of the seven gates she leaves a piece behind: the crown, the necklace, the robe. She arrives down there with nothing, dies, and three days later comes back to life. It is the story of someone who only recognises herself once she has taken off what she was wearing.

Both accounts say, each in its own way, that the value of a thing shows itself when it is seen again. While you have it, you use it. When it withdraws, you weigh it. One of the most quoted explanations for the origin of the word desire puts a star inside it: in Latin, to desire would mean to miss the star.

Epicurus wrote: “Do not spoil what you have by wanting what you do not have.” Venus retrograde asks that question from both sides. What you have and forgot to look at. And what you have and no longer want, and only keep out of habit.

You do not need to decide anything in these six weeks. The period gives you the chance to look at what you love, buy and admire as if for the first time. The morning star of November is the same one from the September evening, and still the sky shows her from the other side.

Venus speaks of what you value: who you love, what you spend on, what you find beautiful and how much you think it is worth. When it turns retrograde, seen from Earth the planet appears to move backward in the sky for a few weeks, and tradition reads this as time to review what already exists. The full explanation, with dates through 2034 and what it means to be born with it this way, is in the text about Venus retrograde.

What matters here is this period. In Scorpio, Venus goes to what has been swept under the rug: the jealousy you never admitted, the shared money no one discusses, the desire you pretended not to have. In Libra, it checks the terms of the agreement. Who pays for dinner, who calls first, who always fits their schedule around the other's.

Midway through, on 24 October, Venus passes between Earth and the Sun, at 0°44' Scorpio. This is the inferior conjunction, the deepest gate of Inanna's descent: she vanishes from the late-afternoon sky and reappears days later before dawn, as the morning star. What you value after 24 October tends to have shifted.

A retrograde period has a before and an after. Venus crosses the same stretch of sky three times, and the subject often gives a sign already on the way in, weeks before the date everyone publishes.

If something started stirring in you in early September, take note. It tends to come back in October to be reviewed, and settle into place by mid-December.

Venus retrograde is the same in everyone's sky, and that is why it also tells a collective story. What follows is a reading of the mood, the way world astrology reads the sky: trends in subject and tone that you will recognise in the news and in the family group chat.

Money, debt and price. Venus in Scorpio speaks of credit, debt and what is split between people. She forms three squares with Pluto in Aquarius, on 15 September, 20 October and 9 December, and the value of things sits at the centre of the conversation: interest rates, renegotiation, the question of how much what you pay is actually worth. Many people review subscriptions and instalment plans in these months, and the luxury and beauty trade tends to feel the hesitation of buyers.

Agreements coming back to the table. Libra is the sign of treaties. With Venus back in it from 25 October and Mercury retrograde at the same time, agreements between countries, companies and parties tend to be revisited. What was signed in a hurry calls for a second look, and negotiations that seemed closed can be reopened.

Affection measured in public. Pluto in Aquarius speaks of the power of networks and technology. In tension with Venus, it puts up for discussion how love is sold, counted and put on display: dating apps, the algorithm that decides what you find beautiful, a couple's life shown off to people who are not part of it.

Pride takes the stage, around 10 October. The square with Mars in Leo heats up the clash between will and vanity. Fights that turn into spectacle, breakups announced to the world, people who would rather be right than make peace.

A door for reconciling, on 4 and 28 November. The two sextiles with Jupiter in Leo open room for the generous gesture, the apology, and the reunion of people who had fallen out.

The aesthetic that comes back. Every Venus retrograde brings back an old taste. In Scorpio, the dark, the velvet, the intimate; in Libra, the classic, the symmetry, what has proportion.

None of this forces anything to happen. It is the tone of the moment, and each place lives that tone through its own history.

The collective sky turns personal when it touches a point in your birth chart. These feel this period the most:

For everyone, the period unfolds in three stages:

The sign shows the theme in the sky. The house in your chart shows which area of your life it happens in. Venus retrograde is the same for everyone; where it falls in your chart is yours alone.

To find it, generate your free chart here on the site with your birth date, time and city. The exact time makes a difference: half an hour more or less can change the house. On the wheel, look on the outer ring for the symbol for Scorpio and the one for Libra. The number of the house that occupies that stretch is the area of life this period touches. If one of the signs stretches across two houses, both count.

Anyone who wants to understand why the wheel is divided this way will find the explanation in what an astrological house is. And anyone who likes to follow the sky as it moves through their own chart will find the method in the text about Transits.

Each house is an area of life. Here is what retrograde Venus will affect in yours, the lesson of the period and the question left for you until December.

Retrograde Venus will affect self-image, beauty, self-worth and the wish to be appreciated. These weeks bring the urge to change your hair, your clothes, the way you show up, and the old doubt about your own magnetism resurfaces. Other people's eyes weigh more than usual.

“My worth is not born from how others see me.” The period calls for an aesthetic and an identity that make sense from the inside, instead of a life arranged to be desirable. Whose gaze are you trying to please?

Retrograde Venus will affect money, self-esteem, possessions and personal values. The credit card bill tells a story: what you buy to feel better, and how much you charge for what you do. What you used to call valuable may lose its shine, and what you had forgotten may matter again.

“Not everything with a price has value, and not everything with value can be bought.” It is time to rethink your own criteria for worth before spending, selling or accepting an offer. How much do you think you are worth, and who taught you that number?

Retrograde Venus will affect emotional communication, close ties, siblings and learning. Old conversations come back to mind, the message gets written and deleted three times, and affection stays stuck in thought before it reaches your mouth.

“Not every feeling needs to be perfectly understood to be shared.” The period invites you to say what was left half-said, even without the perfect sentence. What word do you owe someone close by?

Retrograde Venus will affect family, roots, intimacy and emotional past. Old affections wake up. A subject with your mother or father comes back to the Sunday table, or the house you live in asks for a different arrangement, and with it the question of what belonging means.

“Home is not necessarily where I came from; it is where I can exist without abandoning myself.” The period calls for a look at the home you inherited and the home you want to build. What from your childhood home do you still repeat in today's?

Retrograde Venus will affect romance, pleasure, creativity and creative self-esteem. An old love sends a sign, a passion returns, or you notice you stopped enjoying things without first weighing them up. Pleasure turns into a question before it turns into joy.

“Pleasure does not need to be earned.” The period invites you to create, love and desire without turning everything into proof of your worth. What would you do just for the pleasure of it, if no one were watching?

Retrograde Venus will affect work, routine, service, the body and daily life. The colleague you got along with cools off, the body asks for care that had been pushed aside, and a doubt appears: are you loved for who you are or for what you do for others?

“Being useful is not the same as being loved.” The period calls for letting yourself be cared for and rethinking how much of your day is done out of obligation. What part of your day do you do with pleasure, and what part only out of obligation?

Retrograde Venus will affect relationships, marriage and partnerships. This is the house where retrograde Venus shows up most. The couple's agreement needs checking, reciprocity is weighed, and old emotional patterns become visible, sometimes in the shape of someone who comes back.

“A relationship does not exist to complete my identity — it exists to confront and expand it.” The period calls for a review of what you choose, what you accept and what you offer. What do you give in the relationship expecting something back?

Retrograde Venus will affect intimacy, sexuality, trust, emotional power and shared resources. Feelings kept for a long time rise to the surface, along with the fear of losing control. The joint account, the inheritance and the subjects the couple avoids come back to the table.

“Intimacy calls for vulnerability, not control.” The period calls for enough trust to be seen fully. What do you share and have never said bothers you to share?

Retrograde Venus will affect beliefs, philosophy, travel, other cultures and spirituality. Ideas you held about love, marriage, morals or beauty are put into question. The postponed trip, the course, the faith: a place or an idea you loved asks for a second look.

“Loving also means letting my beliefs change.” The period invites you to build your own affective philosophy. What did you believe and stop believing without noticing?

Retrograde Venus will affect public image, career and recognition. A conflict appears between what you desire and what looks admirable or correct in other people's eyes. The recognition you were expecting may arrive, or it may not, and show you how much it mattered.

“Success without personal identification can turn into an elegant prison.” The period calls for a career that carries your signature. Do you want the position or do you want the applause?

Retrograde Venus will affect friendships, groups, community and the future. The friendship that cooled reappears, or the usual group loses its charm, and you feel different from those around you. It is time to review who deserves to stay.

“Belonging does not mean adapting until I disappear.” The period invites you to look for the crowd where you can be whole. In which group are you still who you were, and no longer who you are?

Retrograde Venus will affect hidden love, the unconscious, idealisation, sacrifice and endings. Feelings hard to name come back from deep down, and a love that exists more in imagination than in the world may take up too much space.

“Not every love needs to be lived to have meaning, but not every suffering should be called love.” The period calls for telling apart the longing that teaches from the one that only traps. What do you love and have never said out loud?

Look at both houses together. Scorpio tells you where what was kept hidden lives; Libra, where the agreement that needs remaking lives. Often they are two ends of the same story.

Your chart has ten points and twelve houses, and the sun sign is one tenth of that. Date, time and place of birth are what separate a table from a chart.

Venus retrograde does not bring bad luck in love and is not punishment for any choice. Nor is it a reason to cancel, on your own, a wedding, a surgery or a contract already decided. Anyone with a date set should keep it, ideally with eyes a little more open to what they are signing.

The general sky describes the mood of a time, and it is you who decides what to do within it. An ex does not come back because Venus turned retrograde, and a relationship does not end because of it. The period puts the subject in front of you; what to do with it is still your decision.

Take paper and write down three things you valued in August: a person, an expense, a quality of your own. Put the paper away in a drawer. In the week of 13 November, read it again and see what has shifted.

What I see most in readings, during these months, is people discovering they kept paying for things they no longer wanted. The forgotten subscription, the favour that became an obligation, the relationship kept going out of habit. Venus in Scorpio and Libra gives you the chance to go over that account without rushing, with a full month of shadow after the direct station to adjust whatever needs it.

And if you want to go beyond the list, notice who shows up in these days. Who comes back, who disappears, who suddenly asks for a conversation. Venus moves backward, and the sky's movement in these weeks is one of reunion.

And the questions that come up most on this subject, with the short answer:

When does Venus retrograde start and end in 2026? It starts on 3 October 2026, at 4:09 am, and ends on 13 November, at 9:22 pm, Brasília time. Counting the shadow, the period runs from 31 August to 15 December.

Which sign is Venus retrograde in, in 2026? It turns retrograde at 8°29' Scorpio, moves back into Libra on 25 October, and turns direct at 22°51' Libra. That is why the period speaks to both signs: what you have kept to yourself, and the agreements within your relationships.

Can I get married during Venus retrograde? You can. There is no prohibition, and no one should cancel a wedding, a surgery or a contract on their own because of the sky. If the date is still open, it is worth talking calmly about what each of you expects.

What does Venus retrograde 2026 change for the world? The collective mood speaks of money, debt and price, of agreements coming back to the table, and of how affection gets measured and put on display. Venus forms three squares with Pluto, on 15 September, 20 October and 9 December, and moves backward alongside Mercury from 24 October to 13 November.

Who feels Venus retrograde 2026 the most? Anyone with Sun, Moon, Venus or Ascendant between 22° Libra and 9° Scorpio, anyone with their Ascendant in Taurus or Libra, and anyone with planets in the first degrees of Taurus, Leo and Aquarius or in the last degrees of Aries, Cancer and Capricorn.

Does an ex come back during Venus retrograde? Sometimes someone from the past does turn up in these days, and plenty of people notice it. What the sky tends to do is bring the subject close; who comes back, and whether the relationship starts again, is down to the two people involved.

How we interpret your chart

Methodology

☉

The interpretation follows the Shelly Gonella method — a well-known astrologer who never reads a position in isolation.

01

Every reading combines planet, sign, house, aspects, ruler of the house and position of the ruler, identifying patterns that repeat in your chart.

02

The result is an integrated interpretation, made to turn astrological information into clarity, real understanding and practical use.

Have you ever gone to an astrology site, generated your birth chart and started reading each position separately?

"Moon in Pisces."

"Venus in Gemini."

"Uranus in House 7."

You get dozens of interpretations but, in the end, you still do not understand how any of it applies to your life.

Worse still: many people end up concluding that "astrology does not work" when, in fact, the problem is how the chart was interpreted. A birth chart is not a collection of loose meanings.

In professional astrology there is a methodology of reading. There is an order, criteria and specific guidelines that show which elements carry more weight, how they relate to each other and which patterns really repeat. That is what turns information into understanding. It was for that reason that I developed my method of interpretation.

Instead of simply explaining what each planet, sign or house means, I answer the question that really matters:

"What do I do with this?"

How does that position influence my relationships? My career? My challenges? My talents? My decisions?

Because astrology only makes sense when it stops being a list of traits and becomes a practical tool for understanding who you are, why certain patterns repeat and how to use that knowledge to live with more awareness.

Most charts explain what you have.

My method explains how everything works together, which patterns in your chart matter most and, above all, what to do with that information in practice.

That is the difference between reading a birth chart and truly understanding it.

High-precision astronomical calculations, checked position by position to guarantee the accuracy of every sign, house and aspect in your chart.

Frequently asked questions

Questions about your reading

How does it work?

You enter your birth data and receive the graphic of your birth chart free, with the positions of the planets, signs, houses and aspects. Then you choose the area you want to understand first: the written interpretation is ready within 1 day and opens in your library, here inside the site.

Is the interpretation created from my chart?

Yes. The content is organised from the real positions of the planets, signs, houses, aspects and rulers of your birth chart — never from a standard text that would serve anyone with the same isolated position.

Do I need to know the exact time of birth?

For the free chart, no: without the time it is still possible to calculate the positions of the planets, but the Ascendant and the houses become unavailable or less precise. For the interpretation you buy, yes — the time is indispensable, because the Ascendant, the houses and much of what the reading analyses come from it. If you are not sure of the time, check your birth certificate before ordering: without it the result would be led into error.

How long until I receive my analysis?

Within 1 day of the payment clearing — and usually well before. It opens on its own in your library, and you can close the page while you wait.

Do I get a PDF? Does access expire?

Yes, the interpretation is available to download as a PDF, and the PDF is yours to keep. On the platform, access lasts 12 months from the purchase.

Can I buy more than one analysis?

Yes. After the first sign-up, you can order as many as you like with the same login — they are all kept in your library.

Is my data safe?

Yes. Your birth data is used only to calculate the birth chart and is never shared with third parties. The payment details go straight to whoever charges — this page does not store card numbers.
