You were sure it was settled. The fight with your sister, the real reason you left that job, what your friend said at that birthday party and nobody mentioned again. Then, on some ordinary Tuesday, the message arrives: “can I tell you something?”. And the matter is back, now with the missing piece.

This is the mood of Mercury retrograde in Scorpio. In 2026 it moves backwards from October 24, at 4:11am, until November 13, at 12:55pm, Brasília time. The whole period stays in Scorpio: it turns at 20°58' and picks up forward motion at 5°02' of the same sign.

And there is a detail that makes this Mercury different from the others: it does not move backwards alone. Venus is retrograde at the same time, and both turn direct again on the same day.

Mercury is the part of you that thinks, speaks, writes, negotiates and makes plans. When it turns retrograde, seen from Earth the planet appears to move backwards across the sky for about three weeks, and tradition links this backward motion to reviewing, rereading and picking things back up. Notice the first and fourth lines: Mercury stops moving backwards at the exact degree where the shadow opened. What reached you around October 4 is, often, the same matter that gets resolved after November 13.

This is the most curious feature of the period. Venus turns retrograde on October 3, in Scorpio, and on October 24 it passes between Earth and the Sun. On that same October 24, Mercury stations and begins moving backwards. From October 24 to November 13, both are retrograde together, and the two direct stations fall on the same day: Mercury at 12:55pm and Venus at 9:22pm on November 13.
