What the house of the Part of Fortune says in your birth chart
The sign of the Part of Fortune says in what manner; the house says WHERE. And in this series the house has an advantage no other house on this site has.
It is the only house in the chart that barely moves when the birth time is wrong. Measured in São Paulo, every six hours across fifty years: one hour of error changes the house of the North Node in 50.1% of charts, and the house of the Part of Fortune in 5.5%. Four minutes of error change it in 0.3%. In every other house series the honest sentence is “without the exact time, the house is worthless”; here it is not.
And the measurement says why. In one hour the Ascendant moves 15.01 degrees — and the Part of Fortune moves 15.01 degrees. It travels with the Ascendant because it comes from it: the formula is the Ascendant plus the distance between the Moon and the Sun. Only the Moon opens a gap between the two, 0.51 degree per hour. From that comes an identity, not a coincidence: the distance from the Ascendant to the Part of Fortune IS the phase of the Moon. We checked it in 73,050 charts, with a worst-case difference of 0.0000000000002 degree.
And the house shares out evenly — each of the twelve receives the Part of Fortune around 8.3% of the time, with a maximum deviation from flat of 0.180 percentage point.
There is one large trap. The classical formula changes between day and night, and the two versions never fall in the same house — zero in 73,050 measurements. They mirror each other around the line of the Ascendant, so one is always on one side and the other on the other. Whoever uses the wrong formula does not get it wrong sometimes: they get it wrong always.
And a limit stated on the first screen, because the old name misleads: the Part of Fortune is not luck and does not promise money. What the modern reading describes is the place in the chart where a person recovers without spending strength.
What it means to have the Part of Fortune in the 3rd house
The Part of Fortune in the 3rd house puts rest in the short conversation, the familiar route and the subject that does not have to lead anywhere. It is the house of the everyday — the neighbourhood, the sibling, the message, the morning’s reading. With the Part of Fortune here, a person recovers in the small, not in the large.
It is not the house of someone who talks a lot. It is the house of someone who tires of heavy subjects and comes back to normal through a conversation that decides nothing.

At the New and the Full Moon it does not matter whether the chart is diurnal or nocturnal: adding and subtracting zero is the same calculation, and the same holds for 180 degrees. At the quarters it does matter, and the swap is from one angle to the other. Whoever has the Part of Fortune in the 3rd house was usually born near a quarter — the First Quarter in a diurnal chart, the Last in a nocturnal one. In a diurnal chart at the First Quarter that calculation lands right on the turn from the 3rd house to the 4th — half the quarter charts fall on each side.
It is the phase of useful tension, the one that pushes without bursting, and it suits a house that recovers in movement rather than at rest.
How the Part of Fortune in the 3rd house changes over time
What changes with time is not the taste for the small: it is the person no longer apologising for it. At twenty, needing a silly conversation looked like a lack of depth. Later it becomes the maintenance that makes depth possible on the other days.
