The sign of Mars says HOW you fight; the house says WHERE your force is spent. They are two different questions, and the second is almost never asked. Mars in Capricorn describes somebody who acts with method and does not give up; Mars in Capricorn in the 6th house describes that same force turning into a tireless worker, and in the 7th it describes the same person negotiating hard with the one she loves. It is another life, with the same sign.

Here the series changes its rule, and it is worth noticing. The house of Mercury and that of Venus are almost always the Sun's or a neighbour of it, because both walk tied to it. Mars is tied to nothing: it can fall in any of the twelve houses, including the one opposite the Sun. That is why this is the reading that most explains what the Sun sign was not explaining.

And there is one thing the house of Mars says that no other says: that is where you have a scar. Mars is the planet of the cut, the accident, the surgery and the fight, its house tends to mark the area of life in which the person got hurt, defended herself and learned to fight. And the hard difference of this series has to be said before anything else: the house depends on the exact time of birth. And here is what hardly any text writes down: the scar of this placement is one of loss, and it usually comes early. A death, a parental separation, a financial collapse, an abuse. What stayed was not fragility: it was the opposite. She holds the hospital, the funeral, the bankruptcy, the conversation nobody wants to have, and since every family and every company needs a person like that once a decade, whoever has this is usually called exactly when it matters.

In practice that turns into three useful things: an ability to act in a crisis that saves a situation and sometimes a life; a competence with shared money, contracts and hard negotiation; and a courage for the forbidden subject that settles what politeness postpones.

That strength does best in finance, crisis, emergency health, psychology, investigation, debt negotiation and any work with what is grave. And it does badly in a routine with no risk, in an environment where nothing is serious and in any arrangement where money and power cannot be spoken of.

There are two, and they are opposites: the excess is intensity turning into a dispute over control, and the deficiency is somebody who switched the engine off precisely in this area of life. The Shelly Method reads every archetype through four faces, the light, the shadow, the excess and the deficiency, and it is the last of them that hardly any text mentions.

The excess is needing to know and needing to decide: the person checks, tests, keeps information back and treats transparency as a tool. It also shows up in the mixing of money with affection with no rule, and when that breaks, it breaks in both places at once.

The deficiency is the opposite and goes unnoticed for years: the person stopped reacting here, and calls that patience. Here she is the person who refused to go deep again. After a heavy story, she decided not to get involved, not to share, not to depend, and lives a comfortable, shallow life in which nothing touches her, because nothing reaches her. It is the most practical correction of this series: keeping your own income and reserve is not distrust. It is what allows you to enter the dispute without it being a matter of life and death.

It matures when the person learns to let go of what she does not need to control, and that learning is worth more than any attempt to learn to get less involved. Endurance stays the talent; what changes is that it stops looking for a crisis in order to use it.
