Astrocartography: the birth chart drawn on the world map

Astrocartography puts the planetary lines on the globe. Measured: the nearest line to São Paulo sits 320 km away, at the median.

What astrocartography is

Astrocartography takes your birth chart and draws it on the world map. Instead of asking which house a planet fell in for the city where you were born, it asks: in which places on Earth would that planet be on one of the four angles, at the exact instant of your birth?

The answer is a line across the globe. For each planet there are four: where it would be rising on the eastern horizon, where it would be setting in the west, where it would be at the top of the sky and where it would be at the lowest point. They are the same four positions the Ascendant, the Descendant, the Midheaven and the Imum Coeli hold in an ordinary chart — seen from every place on Earth at once.

It also goes by another name: locational astrology. It is the same thing.

Two shapes of line, and they are different

The culmination lines are straight and vertical on the map — meridians. A planet culminates over one geographic longitude, and over the whole of it: from the north pole to the south pole, every point on that longitude has the planet at the top of the sky at that instant. There are two per planet, the high one and the low one, always half a turn apart.

The rising and setting lines are curves. The longitude where a planet sits exactly on the horizon depends on the latitude you are looking from, and the calculation that gives it is the same semi-diurnal arc this site’s engine already uses for the houses.

The practical consequence of the difference: a culmination line cuts the whole continent in a straight line; a horizon line winds, and can pass close to two cities very far apart.

How many lines there are, and why that changes the reading

There are four lines per body. With the ten planets, forty — and this site also draws Chiron and the North Node, which takes it to forty-eight on the delivered map.

Forty-eight lines on a globe of 360 degrees of longitude is a lot of line. Twenty-four of them are meridians, which gives one every fifteen degrees on average: a little over 1,600 kilometres at the equator, and less than that as you go north or south. Measured across 4,000 charts drawn at random between 1930 and 2025, with the ten planets:

CityNearest line (median)Lines within 1,000 kmCharts with none within 1,000 km
São Paulo320 km2.188.5%
Belém329 km2.0110.1%
Porto Alegre288 km2.317.1%

Having a line near you is the common case, not a sign. Nine in ten charts have some planetary line within a thousand kilometres of São Paulo, and half have one within 320. A site announcing "you have a Jupiter line running through your state" is announcing the normal.

What sets one chart apart from another is not having a line nearby — it is WHICH line, of what kind, and at what distance compared with the others. That is why a serious reading measures the distance to each one instead of listing the ones that "pass nearby".

What a line means

The reading combines two things: the planet and the angle it is on.

That is why the same city can be excellent for one thing and heavy for another. A Venus line on the angle of the other person describes a place where relationships open up; the same Venus at the top of the sky describes a place where your work has to do with beauty, with taste or with money. It is not the same advice.

Astrocartography comes out of your birth chart, and the birth chart is free.

What it does not do

It does not change your birth chart. The sky of your birth belongs to an instant that has passed, and no change of address rewrites it. The planets stay in the same signs and the same aspects wherever you go; what turns is the Ascendant, and with it the houses.

It also does not promise a result. A line describes what comes to the front in a place, not whether it will work out. Living on a Mars line does not guarantee courage nor condemn you to arguments: it guarantees that Mars’s subject will be awake there.

And it does not decide anything for anyone. A job, a family, money and a visa still exist, and they weigh more than any line. Astrocartography comes in as one more piece of information in a decision that is yours — and that is how it is worth using.

Frequently asked questions about astrocartography

Does moving city change my birth chart?

It does not change the birth chart — that is the sky of one instant, and that instant has passed. What astrocartography does is something else: it recalculates which HOUSE each planet would fall in if you had been born in that place, at the same instant. The planets stay in the same signs and the same aspects; what turns is the Ascendant, and with it the twelve houses.

Do I have to live right on a line to feel anything?

Tradition works with a band of influence around the line, not with a thread. The number used varies from school to school — some say 150 km, others 500. This site does not publish a magic number: what it measures is the distance, and the reading says how close you are to each line instead of ruling on whether it counts.

There is a line near me. Is that unusual?

It is the common case. Measured across 4,000 charts drawn at random between 1930 and 2025, the nearest line to São Paulo sits 320 km away at the median, and 91.5% of charts have at least one within a thousand kilometres. There are forty lines with the ten planets, on a globe of 360 degrees — they cannot help being close. What sets one chart apart from another is not having a line nearby, it is WHICH line and of what kind.

Does astrocartography say where I should live?

It says what each place ACTIVATES in your chart, and that is information, not an order. Living on a Saturn line is not a punishment: it is a region where Saturn’s subject — structure, time, responsibility — comes to the front. Plenty of people build a career exactly there. The decision still belongs to whoever is packing the bag.

Why do some lines disappear on the world map?

Because at high latitudes some bodies are circumpolar: they neither rise nor set at that point, so the rising and setting lines simply do not exist there. It is not a flaw in the drawing — it is the geometry. The culmination lines do exist at every latitude, because every body crosses the meridian.

How we interpret your chart

Methodology

The interpretation follows the Shelly Gonella method — a well-known astrologer who never reads a position in isolation.

01

Every reading combines planet, sign, house, aspects, ruler of the house and position of the ruler, identifying patterns that repeat in your chart.

02

The result is an integrated interpretation, made to turn astrological information into clarity, real understanding and practical use.

Have you ever gone to an astrology site, generated your birth chart and started reading each position separately?

"Moon in Pisces."

"Venus in Gemini."

"Uranus in House 7."

You get dozens of interpretations but, in the end, you still do not understand how any of it applies to your life.

Worse still: many people end up concluding that "astrology does not work" when, in fact, the problem is how the chart was interpreted. A birth chart is not a collection of loose meanings.

In professional astrology there is a methodology of reading. There is an order, criteria and specific guidelines that show which elements carry more weight, how they relate to each other and which patterns really repeat. That is what turns information into understanding. It was for that reason that I developed my method of interpretation.

Instead of simply explaining what each planet, sign or house means, I answer the question that really matters:

"What do I do with this?"

How does that position influence my relationships? My career? My challenges? My talents? My decisions?

Because astrology only makes sense when it stops being a list of traits and becomes a practical tool for understanding who you are, why certain patterns repeat and how to use that knowledge to live with more awareness.

Most charts explain what you have.

My method explains how everything works together, which patterns in your chart matter most and, above all, what to do with that information in practice.

That is the difference between reading a birth chart and truly understanding it.

High-precision astronomical calculations, checked position by position to guarantee the accuracy of every sign, house and aspect in your chart.

Frequently asked questions

Questions about your reading

How does it work?

You enter your birth data and receive the graphic of your birth chart free, with the positions of the planets, signs, houses and aspects. Then you choose the area you want to understand first: the written interpretation is ready within 1 day and opens in your library, here inside the site.

Is the interpretation created from my chart?

Yes. The content is organised from the real positions of the planets, signs, houses, aspects and rulers of your birth chart — never from a standard text that would serve anyone with the same isolated position.

Do I need to know the exact time of birth?

For the free chart, no: without the time it is still possible to calculate the positions of the planets, but the Ascendant and the houses become unavailable or less precise. For the interpretation you buy, yes — the time is indispensable, because the Ascendant, the houses and much of what the reading analyses come from it. If you are not sure of the time, check your birth certificate before ordering: without it the result would be led into error.

How long until I receive my analysis?

Within 1 day of the payment clearing — and usually well before. It opens on its own in your library, and you can close the page while you wait.

Do I get a PDF? Does access expire?

Yes, the interpretation is available to download as a PDF. And access does not expire: after the purchase it stays in your account.

Can I buy more than one analysis?

Yes. After the first sign-up, you can order as many as you like with the same login — they are all kept in your library.

Is my data safe?

Yes. Your birth data is used only to calculate the birth chart and is never shared with third parties. The payment details go straight to whoever charges — this page does not store card numbers.
