The sign of Uranus belongs to a seven-year span. Millions of people share it with you, and that is why it describes history, not biography. The house is the only part of this that is yours. In Aquarius that becomes someone who seems to belong to another group; in Cancer, someone whose home and way of living always stood out.

And it does badly in an environment that demands a uniform and discretion, an arrangement where standing out is bad manners and anywhere the hierarchy rests on appearance.
There are two, and they are opposites: the excess is difference turning into a permanent fight with the surroundings, and the deficiency is the person who erased herself in order to fit. The excess is breaking by reflex: the person changes appearance, arrangement and direction every time she starts to feel boxed in, and afterwards does not understand why nothing lasts. It also shows up as a background irritation with anyone conventional, which closes doors.
The deficiency is the opposite: the person flattened her own presence so as not to bother anyone, and calls that discretion. She wears what is expected, says what is expected, and carries a nameless restlessness that comes back as tiredness with her own life. The difference did not disappear, it simply lost anywhere to go.
Both faces have the same raw material, and that is why the repair is the same: a difference that needs a place, not less presence. It is not solved by asking the person to adjust, adjusting produces the second face. It is solved by the place: an environment, a job or a group where being different is what is expected of her, and not what is tolerated, and that is what the sign of Uranus and the rest of the chart show.
This does not show up the same way in two people with Uranus in the 1st house. What changes is which sign it is in, whether it was born retrograde and how it gets along with the rest of the chart.

Whoever has Uranus here tends to have a restless relationship with their own presence, and the bill arrives at the opposite end of the pair, as difficulty in being close to someone without feeling they lost their shape.
When the 1st house gets too intense, the 7th empties out: the person defines herself alone and finds every partnership strange. And when the 1st is erased, it is the 7th that decides who she is. The adjustment that works is having a presence of one's own strong enough to sit beside another, and not instead of it.
It matures when the difference gains an address, and that is worth more than any attempt to learn to fit in. Presence remains the talent; what changes is that it stops spending a life proving it is not like the others.
And here there is a clock almost nobody names: the opposition of Uranus, at around 42 years old. That is when it reaches the point opposite the one it held at your birth, half of the eighty-four-year turn, and the subject of THIS HOUSE is what turns upside down. Here it tends to arrive as a change of image that startles people who have known her for thirty years, and that, for her, was the most coherent thing she ever did.
This is the most honest check a reading of a house allows, and it is worth doing now: what happened in your life between the ages of 40 and 45, and which area did it belong to?
Maturity here is not learning to go unnoticed. It is the person telling apart the difference that defines her from the difference she uses in order to belong nowhere. The mature Uranus in the 1st house goes on standing out, and comes to choose where, and it is that choice that turns strangeness into presence.
No honest text gives an exact age for this: the arc depends on the whole chart.
