The sign says HOW, and the house says WHERE. Two people with the Sun in Leo can have lives that look nothing alike: one with the Sun in the 6th house, spending the shine on a daily trade; the other with the Sun in the 10th, spending the same shine on a public post. The twelve houses are the twelve areas where life happens, the body, money, conversation, the home, creation, work, partnership, what is shared, meaning, career, the group and retreat. The Sun falls in one of them, and that is the area your life is organized to grow in.

The 4th house is the root, the ground, the lineage, the place one comes from, and also the end of things, what remains when everything closes. Our culture reads a life without a visible career as a life not lived, and this position calls that a mistake: here the work of the life happens where nobody applauds.

And here is what hardly any text writes down: the family question is not the backdrop of this life, it is its work. The family this person came from and the one they build are the two central subjects, and one is not a rehearsal for the other. Many people with the Sun in the 4th house spend decades thinking they “have not started yet”, and were doing the whole job all that time.

There is a second piece that changes everything: the ruler of the 4th house, the planet that rules the sign the house begins in, says what kind of root this is. And there is the Sun's own sign, which says what material it is made of. The house gives the ground; the sign and the ruler give the shape.

The excess is the world becoming a threat: nothing outside the home counts, the family's opinion decides everything, and leaving starts requiring a permission nobody gave and everybody demands. It also shows up as a loyalty that imprisons, the person carries the whole family and calls it love when it has already become a debt.

The deficiency is the opposite and hurts more, and it has an address: the 10th house, which sits exactly opposite. It is the person who pours everything into career and reputation, lives wherever they can, has nowhere to return to, and calls that ambition. From outside they look successful and free. Inside there is a tiredness that holidays do not fix, because what is missing is not rest, it is ground. It is Sun in the 4th house living in the 10th.

Both faces have the same raw material, and that is why the repair is the same: a root that has to be cultivated without becoming a fence. It is not solved by asking the person to go out more or work less. It is solved by their building a place of their own that they can leave and come back to, and that is what the Sun's sign and the ruler of the 4th house show.

It matures when the person stops treating their own life as a draft of a public one, and that discovery is worth more than any attempt to be more ambitious. The attempt to “show up more” by effort almost always fails, and produces the deficiency described above.

There is one rhythm that helps to understand the arc, and it is the Sun's own: once a year it comes back through your 4th house, and takes about a month to cross it. It is the month when the home asks: a renovation, a move, a postponed conversation with the family, or simply the wish to stay. There is a second useful clock here: the Moon, the natural ruler of this house, goes around in twenty-eight days, and whoever has this position feels the whole month, and not just one day of it.

A technical caveat the texts about houses tend to hide: there is more than one house system. Placidus, the most used in Brazil, and Whole Sign, the oldest, can put a Sun born near a boundary in different houses. It is not a calculation error: they are different rulers for dividing the same sky.
