The sign of Jupiter says HOW you grow; the house says WHERE life opens space for you. They are two different questions, and in this series the second is worth more than the first, for a reason no other family of texts on this blog has.

The sign of Jupiter belongs to your whole age group. It stays about a year in each sign, so everybody born in the same period has the same one. The house is yours alone. Two people born in the same week have the same Jupiter in Sagittarius, and one has it in the 2nd house, where it becomes money that turns up, and the other in the 12th, where it becomes a generosity nobody sees. It is another life, with the same sign.

That is why this is the half that individualises. Whoever read the series of signs and thought it described half the world was right: it did. This is where the reading becomes about you.

And the hard difference of this series has to be said before anything else: the house depends on the exact time of birth. The whole chart turns about one degree every four minutes, and a house boundary passes in around two hours. And here is what hardly any text writes down: this is the placement in which opportunity turns up from outside and the person only has to say yes, and it is striking how many do not. The invitation arrives. The problem is that it almost always arrives before the person feels ready, and the honest answer of somebody with this placement tends to be I do not know how to do that yet. The useful reading is dry: in this house, accepting before being ready is the method. Competence arrives along with the post.

It is worth remembering why this half weighs so much: the sign of Jupiter belongs to your whole age group, and this house is yours alone. It is what makes the difference between two people born in the same week. In Capricorn this turns into a long career that becomes a reference; in Pisces, into an authority she takes a while to recognise she has.

It shows in the number of doors that opened without her knocking. These are concrete signs, the kind you recognise in your own week:

• receives a professional invitation without having applied
• has a better reputation than she imagines she has
• is seen as an authority before feeling like one
• the career jumps, and does not climb in a straight line
• has a mentor or a boss who opened a door at some point
• works too hard when the post is at stake

Notice what this list does not say. It does not say the person is ambitious or lucky, two labels this placement carries and that describe the excess, not the placement. It says life makes room for her in the public ground.

The strength is reputation: this person is well spoken of where she is not. And that is what makes a career move. Since almost every opportunity arrives through somebody who remembered your name in a conversation, having a name that travels well is an asset that pays off on its own while you sleep.

In practice that turns into three useful things: a professional network that produces invitations with no apparent effort; an authority that arrives earlier than the age; and a capacity to take on large responsibility, which is what separates those who rise from those who stay.

That strength does best in leadership, a career in an institution, her own venture, higher education, public life and any arrangement with a name on the door. And it does badly in a post with no autonomy, a setting where standing out is punished and anywhere reputation is worth nothing.

There are two, and they are opposites: the excess is the career turning into the whole person, and the deficiency is the person who stopped expecting anything good from this area. The excess is accepting everything that turns up: the person rises faster than she learns and at some point occupies a place that is too large. It also shows up as an identity glued to the post, and then every professional criticism is lived as a personal attack, and private life disappears without anybody noticing.

The deficiency is the opposite and passes for humility: the person shrank the expectation until it fit somewhere it does not hurt. Here she is the person who does not accept the invitation. She thinks she is not ready, puts it off, recommends somebody else, and watches less prepared people take the place that was hers. It is the most common and the most expensive face of this placement, because in it the opportunity turns up free and is refused from inside.

Both faces have the same raw material, and that is why the repair is the same: an opportunity that needs a yes, and not less ambition. It is not solved by asking the person to be humble, humility here turns into refusal. It is solved with a one-line rule: accept the invitation and learn afterwards, because in this house competence arrives along with the post and never before it, and that is what Jupiter's sign and the rest of the chart show.

Every house has a pair, and the pair of 10 is house 4. They are not separate subjects: they are the two ends of the same pair, and an excess at one end shows up as a lack at the other. The 4th house is the opposite: the home, the family, what nobody sees. A Jupiter in the 10th very spent out there tends to arrive home with nothing, and this person's private life is far poorer than the career suggests.

The correction is not to work less: it is to give the home the same seriousness of scheduling given to work. The 4th house is the only one that goes on existing when the career changes.

It matures when the person accepts before feeling ready, and that courage is worth more than any attempt to learn to prepare more. The reputation goes on being the talent; what changes is that it stops being wasted on doubt.

And here is the rhythm that is easiest to check in the whole chart: the Jupiter return, every twelve years. At around 12, 24, 36, 48 and 60, it comes back to the degree it was at when you were born, and the subject of THIS HOUSE asks for new space. Here the returns usually come with a post: a promotion, a large invitation, a change of field, or public recognition of an old piece of work.

It is worth doing the sum looking backwards, because it is the most checkable ruler there is: at those ages, what happened in your life in this area?

Maturity here is not learning to settle for less. It is the person coming to tell apart the post she wants from the post she accepts in order not to refuse. A mature Jupiter in the 10th house goes on rising, and starts choosing where to, and it is that choice that turns luck into authority.

No honest text gives an age for this. The arc depends on the whole chart and on the life the person had.

It says where life tends to open space for you, and not that it will open with you doing nothing. An advantage of terrain with no work at all turns into nothing at all.
