What having no water in your chart means
Having no water in your chart means none of the eleven points measured fell in Cancer, Scorpio or Pisces. It is not coldness, and that is the reading repeated most often out there — about the absence that happens least of the four.
The eleven points are the ten planets plus the Ascendant — the same count the grid in the free chart makes. Cancer, Scorpio and Pisces are water signs, and having none of the element means not one of the eleven fell in those three.
How common this is
We measured 124,185 charts, every six hours between 1940 and 2025: 3.3% have no water — the least common of the four. In all, 17.3% of charts have at least one element empty, and only 0.2% have two.
Your decade weighs more than you would think
And here is the finding almost no text about elements carries: missing water is not equally possible in every generation. In the 1940s, 10.1% of the charts measured had no water. In the 1960s and the 2020s, none did — zero across the 21,915 charts measured in those decades.
The cause is arithmetic rather than mystical: three of the eleven points are Uranus, Neptune and Pluto, which stay seven to thirty years in each sign. Anyone born in the same stretch of years has all three in the same place — and three out of eleven is already more than a quarter of the grid. If they are parked in one element, that element is empty for nobody in that generation.
It is the same measurement the page on elements and modalities sets out in full: the grid swings 1.65 points between decades, and the three slow ones alone account for 1.66 of that.
Which element carries the load instead
When one element is missing, another is full — and not at random. In charts with no water, the fullest element is air 36.1% of the time , followed by fire in 33.2% and earth in 30.7%.
That is more useful than it looks: the reading is not "this is missing", it is "this went somewhere else". What the absent element would do is being done, in another accent and at another cost.
In the six personal points it is another story
The eleven points include the three slow ones, which belong to your generation. Looking only at what is yours — Sun, Moon, Mercury, Venus, Mars and the Ascendant 20.4% of charts have no water.
And here the asymmetry disappears. Across the eleven points the four elements go missing at quite different rates (from 3.3% to 5.5%); across the six personal ones it is close to 20% for each of the four. With fewer points and the same four drawers, missing becomes the normal case — and stops saying anything about you in particular.
How the lack of water shows up
What tends to be missing is not the feeling: it is the LANGUAGE for it. People with no water feel like everyone else and have nowhere to put it. The emotion arrives without a name, leaves as tiredness, a headache or irritation, and you learn to treat it as a technical problem — because that was the only thing that worked.

- Someone cries in front of you and your first move is to solve it, not to stay.
- You find out you were sad days later, looking back.
- The question "how are you feeling?" stops you for a few seconds.
What shows up instead
And there is what shows up instead: without water, you tend to be everyone’s harbour in a crisis. Someone who does not sink alongside can stay in the room when the news is bad, and that is a real skill — the same one that becomes hard to switch off when the crisis is yours.
What having no water does not mean
It does not mean you do not feel, do not care or do not know how to love. Three in a hundred charts have no water, and the reading that those people are cold is the one that ruins the interpretation most: they tend to feel too much and translate too little.
And the caveat the whole series makes applies here: with no birth time there are ten points rather than eleven, because the Ascendant is the only one that depends on the clock. An element that appears only in the Ascendant vanishes from the chart of someone who does not know their time — and the absence becomes one of the data, not of the sky.
