What the house of the North Node says in your birth chart

The sign of the North Node says in what manner; the house says WHERE. They are two different questions, and in this series the second one has an advantage the first does not.

Because the sign of the Node is almost cohort information. It takes 567 days in each sign — a year and a half —, so everyone born within eighteen months has the same one. In a whole classroom the sign of the Node repeats; it is true information, and it is wide. The house is yours: it comes from your time and your city.

And the house shares out evenly. In practice that becomes three useful things: charging what you are worth, saying no to an easy partnership and building a reserve that is only yours.

That strength does best in work with income of your own that can be measured, where what comes in is the fruit of what you did. And it does badly in an arrangement where the money is always of two, or of third parties, because there the 8th house takes over again.

What are the challenges of North Node in the 2nd house

There are two, and they are opposites: the excess is the person who saves the way you guard against a threat, and the deficiency is someone who lives inside someone else’s resources and calls it partnership. Here the opposite house is the other point of the same pair. The South Node is always 180 degrees from the North — so with the North Node in the 2nd house, your South Node is in the 8th house, and always will be. In the other series the opposite house is one more reading; in this one it is half the subject.

The 8th house is where you already know how to move: shared resources, crisis, intensity. It is familiar ground, and that is why it pulls. Growth is not in refusing it — it is in not going back to it every time building slowly feels like too little.

How North Node in the 2nd house changes over time

What changes with time is not the income: it is the person finding out that the ordinary also holds a life up. At twenty, a base of your own looked like a lack of ambition. Later it becomes the only thing that does not disappear when somebody leaves.

And here there is a clock almost nobody names: the nodal return, every 18.6 years. The pair closes its circle in 18.6 years, so this happens at around 18, 37 and 55 — and halfway there, at 9, at 27 and at 46, the two nodes are reversed relative to your chart.
